07 Oct Heed the Warning!
How FOOLISH and RECKLESS do we people have to be to not heed the warning of a major hurricane that is barreling towards the United States southeastern coastline?
I guess pretty foolish.
While a category 4 hurricane is on its way towards millions of people, a reporter asks a man “Why aren’t you leaving? Why won’t you heed the warnings?“
He replied, “Well, nothing happened last time. They warned us over and over and nothing happened. I’m just going to TAKE MY CHANCES!”
I must admit I love to watch the flying debris whack the weather guys in the head as they are telling EVERYONE ELSE to evacuate, but they stand on the beach or near the hotel buildings, while winds tear off objects and pummel their bodies. I’d pay $20 to see a coconut knock them in their thick skulls like a Gilligan’s Island episode. Utter foolishness. They need to HEED THEIR OWN WARNINGS!
How many times have we refused to HEED the WARNINGS and “just take our chances?”
When I was little, I knew when my mother was going to snap. I could sense her anger and her mental control slipping. She would begin talking “crazy” – out of her head phrases about how I was “ruining her chance at happiness” and how I was “tempting and seducing the love of her life.” There WERE warnings!
One time, she was losing her grip on control and she got her pistol out of her drawer and was waving it around. She was talking about how she hated me and how she never thought that she could ever birth a “slut.” Her speech was getting more violent and angry and I could feel it was escalating. She beat me severely that day. I felt in my spirit that this was it – A WARNING that I needed to listen to and take action. I knew that she was going to kill me. She had beaten me many times before. She had tried to strangle me many times before. But THIS TIME…was different.
That warning is what gave me the courage to sneak out of my room and call the police. That WARNING is what got me away from the danger and that warning SAVED MY LIFE!
A lady I recently talked to explained to me the warnings she got before her husband tried to kill her.
“I felt my hair raise up on my neck and when I looked into his eyes, he wasn’t really there. It was something else. I knew that if I didn’t get away, once and for all, that he would kill me.”
In the bible, God warned his people many times.
God warned the world a long time. They didn’t heed His warning and then He sent the flood.
Pharaoh was warned many times through Moses to let God’s people go, but he wouldn’t heed the warnings until the plagues came.
Talk about warnings? Did you know that the bible warns that drinking alcohol is unwise or leads to folly over 70 times in the bible?
“Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those led astray by drink cannot be wise.” Proverbs 20:1
“What sorrow for those who get up early in the morning looking for a drink of alcohol and spend long evenings drinking wine to make themselves flaming drunk.” Isaiah 5:11
“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things.” Proverbs 23:29-35
“Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:21
What about the very first warning – the garden and the tree?
“But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:16-17
God WARNED them NOT to eat the fruit from that tree. They didn’t heed the warning and they did it anyway. This changed all of mankind forever. Separation from God and an immediate ticking time bomb to death.
What about our salvation?
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” John 3:36
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 3:2
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Luke 12:40
